Community Service
Since its inception, Team 624 has strived to not only build competitive robots but also embrace the spirit of FIRST by promoting science, technology, and gracious professionalism within our community. Over the years, the team has participated in numerous activities to further these goals. For the past five years, Team 624 has mentored Cy-Springs High School Team 2276, providing them with assistance and passing on the knowledge we have gained over the years. Two years ago, our team helped start Team 2882 at Morton Ranch High School. Last year, Team 624 started FLL Team 7477 at Cinco Ranch Junior High, a feeder school. This year the team has started another FLL team, due to popular demand. Every year, the team participates in BP Engineering Day, a program designed to interest inner-city students in science and engineering. To promote FIRST within the community, Team 624 meets with the Katy ISD School Board, writes to local government officials, and participates in special exhibitions such as the Katy ISD GT Day, Freshman "Roundup", and Parent Night at Cinco Ranch High School.
Halloween Food Drive
This year, Team 624 will be holding its second annual Halloween Food Drive. Last year, thirty-five team members met to spike their hair and color it neon green and then went “trick-or-treating” for canned goods. The team was successful in collecting two carloads of non-perishable food items to benefit the Katy Christian Ministries food pantry.
Science Day Camp
To interest younger students in science and engineering, Team 624 hosted a district-wide Science Day Camp open to students in 4th—7th grade. Five stations - astronomy, robotics, physics, chemistry, and engineering - were set up and run by high school mentors. Over 75 students attended. Due to the enthusiastic response from both parents and students, Team 624 looks forward to establishing the day camp as a semi-annual tradition.
Girls in Engineering Day
Team 624 genorously extends its support to ExxonMobile's Girls in Engineering Day. The team introduced the girls to basic engineering concepts and explained the exciting opportunities that await them in the STEM field. CRyptonite was able to make an impact, and many girls planned to join their school's FIRST team or start their own.
Rebuilding Houston

Team 624 gracefully offered help rebuilding houses in the houston area. We completed projects such as building handycap ramps, building back porch patios, installing new front doors, installing new security screens and helping paint the exterior of the houses. The home owners we appreciative and pleased with the results
Katy Independent School District Technology Day

Team 624 was invited once again to demonstrate the 2010 robot at the Katy Independent School District Technology Showcase. While there were many technology presentations, Team 624 drew the largest crowd, sparking great parent and student interest in the team and the robot. Many students expressed a desire to join the robotics team when they got to high school.
Tree Planting

While Team 624 does enjoy spreading the message of FIRST throughout the community, they also believe strongly in giving back to it as well. The team planted trees at a local community center in order to give back, and make the community a better place.
Blood Drive

Continuing the tradition of the “We Bleed Green” blood drive, team members and their parents and friends met to donate blood at the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center. As a team, we have held three blood drive events, providing the blood needed to save 100 lives.
