Safety

Safety is always the number one priority during build season. Prior to the 2012 build season, CRyptonite Robotics held safety trainings for both new and returning members over topics including general safety in the workplace, hand tool safety, power tool safety, and emergency procedures. The team keeps a current record of all trained members, and for those untrained, the team continues training as needed throughout the build season to ensure safe tool handing and maintain a safe workspace.

The safety captain works to ensure that all members are working safely in a safe and hazard-free environment. To achieve this, the captain has several responsibilities:
1. Prior to build season the captain organizes safety trainings to guarantee safe practice during the build season.
2. The captain keeps record of all members trained to perform specific tasks and trains those who lack experience in safe tool usage and workspace safety.
3. The captain performs daily safety audits, recording any discrepancies between the ideal working conditions and the current environment.
4. The captain keeps detailed records of any injuries, major and minor, any accidents that occur, and any unsafe behavior. These records are filed immediately when a team member is injured.
5. The captain monitors the build site for unsafe behavior or any possible hazards.
6. The captain makes absolutely sure that the team is working in a clean workspace and that emergency exits are clear.
